Transneft R&D Completes Experimental Tests of Cable Sleeves

Transneft R&D has successfully completed experimental research and testing of standard models of cable sleeves from 5 manufacturers proposed for use at the facilities of Transneft subsidiaries. The tests were carried out at Russian Scientific and Research Institute of the Cable Industry (VNIIKP) within the framework of the scientific research carried out by the laboratory of switchgear and electrical equipment of Transneft R&D.

The purpose of this work is to evaluate the reliability of products of various manufacturers under the influence of external factors, confirm the technical and operational characteristics of product models to the requirements of Transneft regulatory documents, develop recommendations for updating and supplementing the general technical requirements for this type of product.

The following was tested during the work: heat-shrinkable cable sleeves for 10 kV, designed for installation for cables with plastic and paper insulation; cold-shrink cable sleeves for 10 kV; heat-shrinkable, jellied and gel cable sleeves for 0.4 kV. Electrical and climatic, leak tests, resistance to through short-circuit currents, tracking-erosion resistance and other types of tests were carried out.

Based on the test results, a conclusion was formed on the possibility of using jellied and gel cable sleeves for 0.4 kV voltage at the facilities of Transneft subsidiaries, and use of cold-shrink cable sleeves for 6 (10) kV voltage was recommended, including on the most critical cable lines of the facilities of Transneft subsidiaries.

The effect of the implementation of the results of the scientific research carried out is to reduce the number of cable line failures for 0.4 to 10 kV voltage and increased reliability of power supply to the facilities of Transneft subsidiaries.
