Scientists of Transneft R&D have taken 1st place at the International Competition of Scientific, Technical, and Innovative Inventions for the Development of the Fuel, Energy and Extractive Industries held by the Ministry of Energy of Russia.
The work A System of Ensuring Safety of Personnel at Fuel and Energy Sector Facilities with Operating Tank Farms for Oil / Petroleum Products was presented at the contest.
The presented system is based on an oil vapour metering and control unit designed to determine the exact volume and composition (heavy/light fractions) of tank farm vapours in real time in any season, as well as to predict the movement of the gas-air cloud under the given weather conditions.
Use of the developed system allows to optimise activities in many areas and works carried out in fuel and energy complex organisations that are engaged in circulation and storage of oil and petroleum products. The system allows to reduce the risks of emergency situations in use of hazardous operating facilities, to take prompt measures to prevent accidents, as well as to ensure safety during works on the territory of tank farms.
Introduction of this innovation with the use of an oil vapour metering and control unit at the facilities of fuel and energy complex organisations will provide an opportunity for a deeper study of gas dynamics processes, considering the operation mode of the tanks, the type of oil or petroleum products, as well as the terrain, the climatic and meteorological conditions (in particular, the wind roses). The system will allow to increase the research potential for further inventions to enhance the safety of hazardous operating facilities.
