The Pipeline Transport Institute, LLC took part in ECOTECH International Exhibition held in Moscow on 12-14 December 2017, using the Transneft booth. On display at the exhibition were the Institute’s latest developments to boost environmental safety.
Visitors and participants were particularly interested in the biosorbent for remediation after emergency oil and petroleum products spills in water, soil, snow and ice. While examining the ECOTECH exhibits UN Environment Executive Director Erik Solheim commented:
“I was very much impressed with this technology which is simple but extremely effective and useful in fighting the water contamination.”
The biosorbent developed by PTI, LLC is unique in that it is effective for the destruction of oil and petroleum products in different climatic environments, including in the Arctic. Depending on the task set, it can be used both as a liquid and as a peat-based solid substance. After application the biosorbent does not require collection and disposal. Both Russian and foreign companies take interest. The biosorbent recipe is patented (Patent #2628692) and works are under way to launch its mass-scale production.
Visitors to the event could also get acquainted with another technology developed and implemented by PTI, LLC. The matter regards the method of using marine hydrobionts for environmental monitoring of water areas and equipment for oil spill as well as petroleum products localization and elimination – the oil skimmer with replaceable intake (suction) devices and floating booms with an installation kit.
